A huge part of my Humanities experience has been learning to love my culture and heritage. As a refugee, it is hard to ignore the political rhetoric in the United States about our existence. There is an assumption that we are uneducated, lazy individuals. However, my family has gone through many hardships to be where we are today. This text shares a small portion of that story, the fact that refugees are simplified to a piece of paper. A piece of paper that holds all of our livelihood. A perilous journey to freedom all reliant on a simple, every day item, paper.
